About the Program

This is a study abroad program for educators and their families, offered beginning the Summer of 2010. Participants will study Spanish at a respected Spanish school in San Cristóbal de las Casas in Chiapas, Mexico, surrounded by natural and cultural wonders. We'll each live with a host family and be offered a wide range of activities including traditional cooking classes, salsa dance lessons, visits to local indigenous villages, and volunteer opportunities. Trip extensions and excursions to other areas of Mexico will be possible as will additional weeks of study and volunteerism.

College credit will be offered through Heritage Institute and Antioch University Seattle at 5 quarter hours per week for up to 2 weeks. It is possible to attend 1 week in isolation but participation in the full 2 week program is recommended.

I'll be traveling with a group for 2 weeks of study beginning the last Sunday in June, 2010. Preference is given to educators from my community but space for additional participants is likely to be available (please note the costs for group travel differ from those listed in the syllabi and on the registration form since more activities and transportation pieces are included and I pay the school). DATES ARE FLEXIBLE FOR INDEPENDENT TRAVEL.

For information about similar programs in other Latin American countries see links below left. Contact information is available on the Registration Form.

About Me

My Photo
Stacey Holeman
I've been a teacher for 30 years, grades K-5, and currently direct Structured Learning Centers for kids with autism and multiple disabilities in The Dalles, Oregon. Gaining conversational ease in Spanish is an important professional and personal goal for me and attending Spanish schools in Latin America is a wonderful path to that end. I'm hoping to help others with their goals along the way.
